Skoda Lauretta Review | Upcoming Car | 2012 | Price & Specification | Features | Concept | Petrol & Diesel | Mileage, Average And Fuel Economy


As per preliminary information, the Skoda Lauretta will be powered by 1598cc four-cylinder engine in the petrol variant and a similar 1.6L diesel engine is hoped to be also available. Initial reflections suggest that Skoda is going to price this car competitively in India and Skoda Lauretta price in India will be around Rs 8 lakh.

Whereas the diesel trim is expected to be available at Rs 1 lakh extra. The name of this new sedan by Skoda is said to have been derived from Skoda Laura and Volkswagen Jetta making it ‘Lauretta. As per initial information about engine specifications of the new Skoda Lauretta, it is expected that it will derive its engine from Volkswagen Vento.


Petrol, it will be powered by a 1.6 liter four cylinder, in-line DOHC engine. The engine is capable of producing 105 bhp at 7700 rpm and also delivers 153 Nm of maximum torque at 3800rpm. The Skoda Lauretta engine will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The diesel powered Skoda Lauretta will also be a 1.6L, four cylinder Common Rail Diesel engine. The engine capacity of the Skoda Lauretta diesel is expected to remain at 105bhp at 4400rpm. The engine is expected to produce a maximum torque of 250Nm at 2500rpm.

The new Skoda Lauretta is expected to return a decent mileage of 15 kmpl on petrol and 20kmpl on the diesel motor. Besides mileage, the Skoda Lauretta is also expected to take good car of the safety department as well. With 2 seatbelts for the rear passengers in addition to Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Brake Distribution system in place, the Skoda Lauretta will be characteristically safer car by Skoda.


Among the comfort features will be dual AC with climate control, full power windows and similar basic features of a premium sedan. Once in, the Skoda Lauretta will give a tough time to Honda’s premium sedan Honda City, German car Manufacturers flagship sedan Volkswagen Vento, the recently launched much hyped Hyundai Verna Fluidic and Ford Fiesta that has unique voice control system besides Chevrolet Aveo, Fiat Linea and Tata India’s big sized sedan Tata Manza.

Mileage, Average And Fuel Economy

The Skoda Lauretta will be available in petrol and diesel variants. The petrol drive Skoda Lauretta is expected to deliver 15 kmpl mileage while the diesel sibling with 105 bhp engine under the hood is expected to return a mileage of 20 kmpl which will be quite high.

Power

The Power of Skoda Lauretta will be available in both petrol and diesel options. Lauretta petrol will be powered by a 1.6L DOHC engine that will churn out a maximum power of 105bhp and a maximum torque of 153Nm at 3800 rpm. This 1598cc engine is quite powerful for this sedan and it will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. An automatic version is also expected on the Skoda Lauretta.

On the other hand the diesel powered Skoda Lauretta will also be a 1.6L engine. This four cylinder Common Rail Diesel engine can produce a maximum power of 105bhp at 4400rpm and a maximum torque of 250Nm at 2500rpm. The Skoda Lauretta Diesel is also expected to be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and looking at the premium segment to which this car belongs, the Lauretta is also expected to come in an automatic version as well.

Exteriors

The Skoda Lauretta looks and exterior design are also greatly inspired by Skoda concept Vision D that the Czech automaker revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. The Vision D is said to be the design that will shape all the future cars by Skoda including Skoda Rapid and Skoda Lauretta.


Besides, the Skoda Lauretta is also expected to derive many external features from its junior Skoda Fabia and sibling sedan Volkswagen Vento. The headlamps, front grille and fog lamps are derived from Skoda Fabia. On the other hand it inherits its doors and roofline from Volkswagen Vento. The tail lamps are Skoda characteristic ‘C’ shaped.

The Vision D concept of Skoda poses the Skoda Lauretta in a majestic style and also puts in an everyday utility car looks and features. Thus inspired, the Skoda Lauretta is more athletic and aerodynamic that other Skoda cars. The Skoda Lauretta will also house the new Skoda logo with much of ‘Skoda Green’ that the car maker unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011.


As per reports, Skoda has adopted a puristic approach in designing the new MissionL design concept that will is the sixth model line of Skoda cars. This new model line is almost ready for production and will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

It is said that the compact sedan to be developed on this platform will be the Skoda Lauretta. As per the MissionL concept, the Skoda Lauretta will have simple yet impressive surfaces, sporty looks and a youthful character. The Skoda Lauretta based on this new concept will have minimal line on its surface and will appear cleaner than other Skoda cars.

Interiors

The Skoda Lauretta interiors will be greatly inspired by the segment it belongs. Interiors of Skoda Lauretta are expected to include a comfortable seating for four passengers with rear armrest, leather upholstery, adjustable driver seat, central console with digital display beside innumerable features. Preliminary reports about the Skoda Lauretta interior suggest that it is highly in consonance with Volkswagen Vento’s.
Skoda Lauretta Engine Capacity & Performance


Sensing the craze for diesel cars in India following the hike in petrol prices, Skoda is expected to bring Skoda Lauretta in both petrol and diesel versions. The petrol Skoda Lauretta is expected to have 1.6L engine under the hood that produces a peak power of 105 bhp at 7700 rpm. The Skoda Lauretta petrol is able to produce a torque of 153Nm at even 3800rpm which makes it most suited for city roads as well.

The diesel Skoda Lauretta will also be powered by a 1.6L engine however it will be a Common Rail Diesel engine that is performing well compared to the TDI and other Turbo charged engines. This diesel motor produces 105bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm at 2500 rpm. Similar to its petrol sibling the diesel run Skoda Lauretta also produces torque at low rpms making it also suitable for city rides.

Wheels


Skoda Lauretta is expected to have 185/60 R14 wheels. Alloy wheel are also expected on the high end trims.

Braking & Handling


Since Skoda Lauretta belongs to sedan segment and expected to be priced between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 9 lakh, not much braking assist features are expected on it. The Skoda Lauretta will have the conventional front disk and rear drum brakes. The brakes are expected to be ventilated.

Handling & Safety

Looking at the expected price range to which the Skoda Lauretta belongs, it would be obvious that it will not be equipped with high end safety features such as airbags, Parking Sensors, Traction Control, EBD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) or ESP (Electronic Stability Control). However, being a Skoda car, it is hoped that Skoda Lauretta high end trims will include many of these safety features.

Stereo & Accessories

Skoda Lauretta sedan is expected to have good entertainment package even in the basic models. The car is supposed to have built in MP3 player with USB and Aux in connectivity. A Bluetooth connectivity option is expected on the higher end trims. Besides, Rear defogger, steering adjustment (optional), drive seat adjustment, rear AC vents, body colored ORVMs and tinted glasses are expected to be the part of the standard equipment of Skoda Lauretta.
